Learning A-Z's ELL Edition provides a broad range of resources for content-based and thematic-based instruction for ELLs from beginning to advanced levels of proficiency.

Resources link directly to content-based and thematic-based texts, and visuals focus on developing speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills in both social and academic contexts, all while building knowledge of academic vocabulary.
Students develop tier 2 and 3 academic vocabulary as well as basic social and survival vocabulary.

Data-Driven ELL Instruction

1 Administer ELL Assessments to gather data on students' language abilities. Use the Tracking Student Progress Form to determine instruction needed.

2 Choose specific lessons from the content-based ELL Language Skill Packs to address students' needs.

3 Select an ELL Leveled Reader Pack that addresses specific language skills, language functions, and grammatical structures.

4 Select an ELL Content Picture Pack, ELL Vocabulary Book, ELL Vocabulary Power Pack, ELL Comic Conversations, or ELL Grammar Resources to develop vocabulary and specific writing, speaking, grammar, and reading skills.

5 Use Raz-Plus for listening, fluency, and comprehension practice.

6 Next Steps: Administer ELL Assessments to monitor progress and determine whether further instruction is needed. Select from thousands of resources such as Word Sorts, Close Reading Packs, or the various materials in the ELL Edition, to meet students' language development needs.

Content-Based ELL Instruction

1 Select an ELL Leveled Reader Pack or ELL Comic Conversations based on a theme or content-area topic and students' grade and language proficiency level.

2 Choose an ELL Content Picture Pack to build upon students' knowledge of content-based vocabulary.

3 Select an ELL Vocabulary Book or an ELL Vocabulary Power Pack to reinforce academic and content-based vocabulary development.

4 Choose lessons from the content-based ELL Language Skill Packs or comics from the ELL Comic Conversations to practice specific language functions. Or choose lessons from ELL Grammar Resources to practice specific language functions using grammar as a focus.

5 Use Raz-Plus for listening, fluency, and comprehension practice around the same topic.
