In 1620, the Mayflower left England to set sail for the New World. The Pilgrims on board were hopeful for a better life in America. Once they arrived, however, they faced devastating challenges, and many died before spring arrived. The remaining Pilgrims may not have survived if it weren't for the knowledge and kindness of a Native man named Squanto. The Story of the Mayflower introduces students to the challenges the Pilgrims faced and the impact of the Pilgrims' arrival on the lives of Native peoples. The book can also be used to teach students how to identify cause-and-effect relationships as well as identify and use antonyms. Book also available at Levels I and L.
