Realistic (fiction), 605 words, Level M (Grade 2), Lexile 610L
When Tommy's dad loses his job, the whole family's world is turned upside-down as they move across the city to live with Popo, Tommy's grandmother, in her small apartment. Life just isn't the same at Popo's house, and Tommy's frustrations grow as he spends more time in her crowded apartment. An unexpected surprise, however, helps Tommy to see the benefits and beauty of living with family as he comes to realize that living with Popo isn't so bad after all. Popo's Place provides students with an opportunity to identify cause-and-effect relationships and practice their retelling skills.
