The U.S. Constitution is the first and most important law of the country. It splits the government into three branches: executive, legislative, and judicial. It explains the powers and responsibilities of each branch. Americans can and have changed the Constitution many times through amendments. The first ten amendments, known as the Bill of Rights, protect the rights of all American citizens.
