When the king announces that he is looking for a wife, both of Mufaro's daughters undertake a journey to his city for the chance to be chosen. While they travel, they stay true to their characters: Nyasha is kind and generous to others, while Myanmar is selfish and mean-spirited. The girls meet a hungry boy and an old woman on their trip and respond to them in keeping with their true natures. When they finally meet the king, he isn't deceived by Myanmar's sweet act or Nyasha's humility; he immediately sees their hearts and makes his choice of wife as a wise king would.
