Mount Kilimanjaro began as a volcano in eastern Africa more than 750,000 years ago. Today, it draws thousands of tourists a year to the border region of Tanzania and Kenya. The mountain rises through several different ecosystems-from forests to glaciers-providing habitats for a wide variety of life forms. Mount Kilimanjaro provides students a look at these different aspects of the world's tallest freestanding mountain.
