With Sara and Becky now happily ensconced next door, Miss Minchin loathes the sight of both of them. Meanwhile, Sara asks the baker who once helped her to feed other hungry children and promises to reimburse her. The baker agrees and brings out Anne, the young beggar girl who Sara once fed outside the bakery, and who now lives with the baker and works in her shop. Sara suggests that Anne be the one to hand out the food, since she knows what it is to be hungry. The two survivors share a moment of silent understanding.
