Rat sends Toad upstairs to dress properly in some of Rat's own clothes. After serving Toad lunch, Rat tells Toad that animals from the Wild Wood have taken over Toad Hall. Toad marches to Toad Hall and confronts the guard, who shoots at him. Toad flees to Rat's house, takes Rat's boat, and goes back to the hall by river. The stoats drop a stone into the boat, sinking it. Toad returns to Rat's house. Rat scolds Toad again and tells him to do nothing until they have seen Badger and Mole.
