The gaoler's daughter helps Toad make a daring escape from prison dressed as a washerwoman. Without money for a ticket, he steals aboard a train. The engine driver offers Toad a free ride in exchange for washing his clothes. Toad thinks he is safe until the engine driver points out that a train full of police is chasing them. Toad confesses his true identity and jumps from the train. He is happy to be free, but the woods feel strange and unfriendly to him. Cold and hungry, he finds shelter inside a hollow tree and goes to sleep.
