When the Pilgrims landed on the coast of what is now Massachusetts, they arrived in the land of the Wampanoag people. In time, the Pilgrims met the Wampanoag leader, Massasoit. They also met Tisquantum, a Native American who lived with the Wampanoag and spoke English. In 1621, when the Pilgrims celebrated their first successful harvest, the Wampanoag joined in the three-day feast. This became known as the first Thanksgiving. After recounting this history, the book presents six common myths about Thanksgiving—and the facts.
