Caves have three parts: the entrance zone, the twilight zone, and the dark zone. Each part has different animals that are adapted to live in that part of the cave. The entrance zone includes animals and people that come inside for short periods of time, such as when bears hibernate in winter. The twilight zone doesn't have enough light for many plants to grow, but many animals live there, although they go outside each day. These animals, such as bats, spend about half their lives in caves. The dark zone is completely dark. Many unusual animals live here and are adapted to live in darkness their whole lives.
