The land animals and birds were at war. Bat wanted to be on the winning side, so he first joined the birds. Then when the birds began to lose, he joined the land animals. When the war ended, Bat didn't know whether to sit with the birds or the land animals at the feast to celebrate peace. The birds and land animals all realized what he had done and were angry. Bat hid in a cave and that is why bats only fly at night, when no one can see them.
