Prepare students for reading success with three sets of High-Frequency Word Books,
which include the most commonly used words in printed text. High-Frequency Word Books
introduce these common words in an easy-to-read format that includes rebuses for
non-high-frequency words. Repeated use will lead to greater fluency, reading rate, and reader confidence.
Since high-frequency words are essential to fluent reading, repeated exposure is crucial. High-Frequency Word Books introduce the most common and essential words in the early sets and reinforce those words in subsequent sets. High-Frequency Words Assessments can be used to evaluate a student's ability to recognize and read high-frequency words from the High-Frequency Word Books.
The following PDFs provide lists of high-frequency words for each set in the order in which
they are introduced and reviewed:
How to Use High-Frequency Word Books
To effectively learn high-frequency words, students must read and write them repeatedly.
You can customize students' Reading Room settings to include access to High-Frequency Word Books
through your Kids A-Z Classroom Roster. Encourage students to read the books repeatedly and use
the eBook tools to circle, highlight, or stamp the high-frequency words. They can even record
themselves reading aloud and send the recordings to your Kids A-Z In Basket for review.
You can also give students printed copies of the books to read on their own and urge them to
write, underline, or circle the high-frequency words on the page. Use the supporting bingo
cards, flashcards, and the
High-Frequency Word Book Strategies Bank to further integrate
high-frequency words in your reading instruction.
Assess your students' knowledge of high-frequency words by using the
High-Frequency
Words Assessments in either digital or print form.
