Packs that cover each letter of the alphabet are provided. Each pack includes all the materials needed for an
approximately 30-minute tutoring session: a lesson page for the tutor, an alphabet song sheet, a large letter
card, an alphabet chant, handwriting sheets, picture cards, an alphabet letter book, and an alphabet game. Packs
are available in either Print style or Slant Print style writing.
One of the first steps in learning to read is recognition of the alphabet. The alphabetic principle teaches
that spoken language is represented by written words; words are made up of varying combinations of letters;
and letters and combinations of them make up all the sounds in spoken language. Attaching sounds to these
letters and learning to write the alphabet paves the way to successful reading and writing.

Print, assemble, and train the tutors on the use of each pack.
Instructions contained in each pack have been specifically written for tutors from varying
backgrounds and with varying experience working with students.
Estimated time allotments are provided for each lesson step; tutors should follow the lesson
sequence as outlined in each lesson plan.
Specific resources used for each step are identified next to the instructions.
