Model fluency and expression as well as close reading strategies, such as asking and answering questions
and citing evidence, and a variety of literary and foundational skills with the Shared Reading Books.
A five-day lesson accompanies each 'big' book, and the fun characters in the optional Projectable Book
with Prompts promote discussion as students practice reading skills and strategies.
The optional Projectable Book with Prompts engages students in further discussion about a book as they participate in a variety of tasks that allow them to practice citing evidence in support of their answers.
Shared Reading helps teachers build foundational skills important for early readers, including
print concepts and reading strategies.
Five-day lessons support instruction for a variety of literary and foundational skills,
including vocabulary, phonics, comprehension, and writing. The lessons also help teachers
to model for even the youngest learners how to read text more closely.
How to Use Shared Reading Books
Each Shared Reading title has a printable student version and two
projectable versions for whole-class activities that allow you to
easily integrate technology in your classroom. Used with or without
an interactive white board, Shared Reading Projectable Books with
Prompts feature characters that ask the readers to complete tasks
and interact with the book. Several characters ask text-dependent
questions and help teachers to model close reading.
Projectable Book Characters
Hang these posters in your classroom to introduce students to the animal characters that teach them about the essential skills associated with the act of reading.
Students interact with skill-based characters and the text in a Projectable Book with Prompts for each Shared Reading book.
