Classic (fiction), 2,138 words, Level Z2 (Grade 5+), Lexile 1160L
Scrooge is visited by the warmhearted Ghost of Christmas Present, clothed in a simple green robe and wearing a crown of holly. The ghost takes him through London's busy streets on Christmas morning. Shops offer delicious foods, and everyone is in great spirits. When unkind or angry words are witnessed, the ghost sprinkles his torch over those who speak them and restores their good will. Finally, they stop at the house where Scrooge's clerk lives, and the Ghost sprinkles another blessing from his torch.
