The seafaring rat continues his tales. Eventually, Rat goes home, packs a luncheon basket, and returns. After lunch, the adventurer continues his storytelling, which puts Rat in a sort of trance. Rat decides to join the seafaring rat on his next voyage and goes home to pack. As he does, Mole appears and is alarmed by Rat's unusual behavior. Mole drags him back inside, and Rat falls into a deep sleep. When Rat wakes up, he can't adequately explain what had happened. Mole reminds Rat of the comforts of home, and Rat settles in to write poetry.
