| "I honestly could write about animals for the rest of my life and never get tired of it." |
Kira's Experience: Kira Freed's inspiration to write is a love of the natural world and a desire to share this fascination with children. The first book Kira wrote about the wonders of nature was Sea Turtles (Level R), and she has since written more than 60 books for Reading AZ in science, social studies, art, and math. She has also written for other Learning AZ websites and other educational publishers, including Benchmark Education and Wright Group, as well as for magazines and blogs in her role as a life coach.
Kira's Education: Kira holds graduate degrees in anthropology (University of Colorado-Boulder) and counseling psychology (California Institute of Integral Studies). She studied prehistoric and modern animals while working as an archaeologist and has volunteered at the Alaska SeaLife Center. She is also a certified life coach and wellness coach.
Kira's Author Packet: Have students read an article about Kira and explore a list of Kira's books. Use the comprehension questions and graphic organizers to see what students have learned about Kira and what she writes.
