Background

The VCe long /i/ vowel spelling as in kite is a common spelling of the long /i/ vowel sound. There are other ways to spell the long /i/ vowel sound. These include ight as in night and might, i as in bind and kind, and y as in fly. In some cases, this VCe pattern does not represent the long /i/ vowel sound, as in receive and receptive.
