Lesson Plans for THE BUFFALO HUNT Level N

During Reading

Student Reading
Hand out the books to children and ask them to read the introduction.
Say and ask: Let's think about what we already know or think we know about a buffalo hunt. Now let's read the first page together. Discuss each point or idea given during the Build Background section and connect it to the facts in the text. List the characters, setting, and events.
Have children read the rest of the book independently. You may suggest they read through the book once, and then read it again, stopping to list characters, setting, and events in their chart on the worksheet. During this time you may choose to work with another group or with individuals to monitor their oral reading and comprehension.
Say: I want you to finish reading the book at your own pace. Read it a second time and fill in the story chart on the worksheet.
