Lesson Plans for A VISIT TO THE ZOO level I

Expand the Reading

Writing Connection
Have children write what their favorite animal is at the zoo and why.

Science or Art Connection
As a science connection, this book can be used while doing a unit of study on animals. It can introduce the idea that, while some animals may not live in the wild where you live, they can still be seen in places like zoos. It can also be used as a starting point for discussions regarding how children feel about keeping animals in zoos.
As an art connection you can have children illustrate their writing from the Writing Connection section above.

Reading Independently
Have children read the book independently or with a partner. You can also encourage them to read other books of their choice that match their reading level.
