The King Lost His Ring
Fairy Tale (fiction), 366 Words, Decodable
Background |
The ng digraph is not completely reliable in the sound it makes. There are three possible sounds represented by the ng digraph. The first is the hard ng sound in finger. The second is the soft ng as in challenge, and the third, and most common is the ng digraph sound as in sing, ring, and stinger. This can get complicated for some children because the words singer and finger are pronounced differently though they are spelled almost the same.
